Why We Started This Petition

Update: The district has satisfactorily addressed this issue, read the update here.

A few days ago I was made aware of some very disturbing teaching materials that were distributed to teachers in Spartanburg School District 7, and were mixed in with “Black History Month 2021.” Those materials had absolutely nothing to do with black history, and were very disturbing to the teachers I spoke to.

All across America I have heard of school districts and states implementing LGBTQ+ education into their regular curriculum. Not sex ed, but history and social studies and as early as second grade. Like most of you, never in my craziest imaginations believe it would come to our school district. But it’s here, and to add insult to injury — they are trying to hide it under the guise of Black History Month.

We have three kids who are or will attend District 7 schools, so for at least the next decade what gets taught in this school district is very important to us.

Unless parents act NOW, we will be like all those other schools across the country who have lost the battle, and LGBTQ+ education will be a regular, normal part of Spartanburg District 7 education curriculum.

The time to act is NOW.

Please, sign the petition on this site and share it with everyone you can!
